The Charlotte region continues to rank among the fastest-growing areas in the country, adding 49,324 new residents between July 1, 2024, and July 1, 2025, according to new data released by the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance. That equates to an average of 135 new residents every day, reinforcing North Carolina's position as one of the nation's top destinations for relocation.

While the daily average is down from 157 new residents per day reported the previous year, regional leaders say the slowdown is largely tied to a nationwide decline in international migration rather than weakening demand for the Charlotte area. Domestic migration remains strong, with many newcomers relocating from major metropolitan areas such as New York City, Miami, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles in search of employment opportunities, lower living costs, and a higher quality of life.

The continued influx of residents is expected to keep pressure on the region's housing market. Although inventory has improved across North Carolina over the past year, Charlotte remains one of the state's most competitive markets, with demand for both single-family homes and apartments remaining steady.

Population growth is also fueling the need for additional infrastructure, transportation improvements, schools, and commercial development. Local officials say managing that growth responsibly will be critical as the region continues to expand. Businesses evaluating future expansion are also paying closer attention to housing affordability and overall cost of living, which have become increasingly important factors in site selection decisions.

Charlotte's steady growth continues to support new residential construction and long-term investment throughout the metro area. Developers remain active across surrounding communities as they work to meet housing demand while accommodating one of the fastest-growing populations in the Southeast.

Despite the slight slowdown in migration, economic development leaders say the region remains well positioned for future growth. Adding more than 49,000 residents in a single year continues to place Charlotte ahead of many competing metropolitan areas, providing a strong foundation for continued real estate development, job creation, and economic expansion.
