In Boulder City, many residents historically leased land from the federal government instead of owning it outright because the town was originally built for workers constructing the Hoover Dam. Even today, Boulder City remains one of the few places in Nevada where gambling is heavily restricted, giving it one of the most unusual real estate and land ownership histories in the American West.
